This blog is focused more on pro Second Amendment issues and between now and election day much will be written about what an Obama administration and a congress with larger Democratic majorities will mean to the rights of gun owners. Having said that, there are other reasons to do all we can to defeat Barack Obama. What do we really know about this man that speaks in platatudes and mosiacs about what he wants to do if he is elected.
Enter the American Issues Project, a conservative 527 organization with a new ad that will hopefully get Americans thinking about where Obama really wants to lead this nation. Take a look.
I,ve linked to your post from Reflux: Obama’s Attorneys attempt to censor political ad
As an NRA member for over 40 years, I am disgusted by the blatant support of many of our members for EITHER candidate in this election.
McCain’s record on gun legislation is only marginally better than Obama’s. Read the records and read the past grades McCain has received from NRA and GOA.
Now McCain supporters are circulating this ad, trying to convince people that it is true, knowing full well that Obama has repeatedly denounced the bombings and other activities of William Ayers’ early life, and also knowing full well that William Ayers is reformed, now holding a prestigious teaching position as Distinguished Professor in the College of Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
In a letter to the editor in the Chicago Tribune, Ayers wrote, “I condemn all forms of terrorism — individual, group and official”. He also condemned the September 11 terrorist attacks in that letter. “Today we are witnessing crimes against humanity on our own shores on an unthinkable scale, and I fear that we may soon see more innocent people in other parts of the world dying in response.”
Ayers was tapped by Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley to help found the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a school reform program. Since 1999 he has served on the nine-member board of directors of the Woods Fund of Chicago, an anti-poverty, philanthropic foundation. Ayers and Obama served together on the Woods Fund Board from 1999 until Obama left in 2002. That is the extent of their association.
The ad does not serve the American people, nor the people of the NRA. It is smut journalism.
Dorozhand,
Just so you know, while I am an NRA Recruiter and sell discount memberships on this web site, it is not affiliated with the NRA. The NRA is not promoting the ad mentioned in this post. This is my personal blog.
I have written more than once that McCain does not have a perfect record on gun rights but when looking at the gun control measures that Obama supports, and McCain’s record on the issue, it is clear he is head and shoulders above Obama and gun owners have a clear choice in this election.
Update: It appears that Obama had a much closer relationship with Ayers than Dorozhand mentioned in his comment. For more information, read this Wall Street Journal article:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122212856075765367.html.
According to the article:
“The Obama campaign has struggled to downplay that association. Last April, Sen. Obama dismissed Mr. Ayers as just ‘a guy who lives in my neighborhood,’ and ‘not somebody who I exchange ideas with on a regular basis.’ Yet documents in the CAC archives make clear that Mr. Ayers and Mr. Obama were partners in the CAC. Those archives are housed in the Richard J. Daley Library at the University of Illinois at Chicago and I’ve recently spent days looking through them.”
Regarding the claim that Ayers has redeemed himself because he is “now holding a prestigious teaching position as Distinguished Professor in the College of Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago,” the article has this to say:
“That claim is hard to swallow if you understand that he views his education work as an effort to stoke resistance to an oppressive American system. He likes to stress that he learned of his first teaching job while in jail for a draft-board sit-in. For Mr. Ayers, teaching and his 1960s radicalism are two sides of the same coin.”
