Apparently the President does not have enough on his hands with the economy and two wars that he feels the need to to take on the #1 Radio Talk Show Host in America.  According to the New York Post:

President Obama warned Republicans on Capitol Hill today that they need to quit listening to radio king Rush Limbaugh if they want to get along with Democrats and the new administration.

“You can’t just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done,” he told top GOP leaders, whom he had invited to the White House to discuss his nearly $1 trillion stimulus package.

One White House official confirmed the comment…

You know, as a conservative, I don’t want Republicans to “get along with the Democrats and the Administration,” I want to to stand up for what is right and what is best for the country.  Spending a trillion $ on public works projects is not what this economy needs – we need lower taxes and less government spending.

The Post said the President even told my Congressman, Eric Cantor, during an exchange about the “stimulus” package that “I won, I will trump you on that.”  In a battle of wits between Barack Obama and Eric Cantor, my money is on Cantor.

Update: Limbaugh Responds to Obama

Barack Obama has named Virginia Governor Tim Kaine to head the Democratic National Committee.  Kaine had previously told Obama that he would not accept a cabinet level position in the new administration.  Kaine said he wanted to finish his term as Govenor.  I guess Kaine figures being chairman of the DNC will not require much time away from his duties as Governor.   Actually, he had a lot of practice considering the amount of time he was on the road for Obama last year. I can’t say I am surprised by this because Obama likely wanted to give Kaine something for all of the work he did on Obama’s behalf and since he would not accept a cabinet post the only thing of substance is the DNC chairmanship.  We shall see if Kaine can do more for the DNC than he has done for the Commonwealth.  To date, Kaine only achievements have been in the political realm – helping put control of the State Senate back in the hands of his party, and working to push Virginia in the “Blue” column last election.

Kaine has signed one pro-gun bill of substance – the bill outlawing N.Y. Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s firearm straw purchase schemes, as well as some minor pro-gun bills.  But the two most important pro-gun bills to pass during his term – the bill repealing the restaurant ban and the bill allowing non-CHP holders to carry concealed firearms in private motor vehicles if stored locked in container – were both vetoed.  Kaine is also famous for having tried to use public funds to support the 2000 Million Mom March while he was Mayor of the City of Richmond.

The Obama transition team was apparently taken aback by all of the Internet chatter on such things as his gun control proposals and his mandatory public service proposals because the change.gov web full of 20 some policy headings that included specifics in each category like “Urban Policy” etc., has been replaced with simply this paragraph:

The Agenda

President-Elect Obama and Vice President-Elect Biden have developed innovative approaches to challenge the status quo in Washington and to bring about the kind of change America needs.

The Obama Administration has a comprehensive and detailed agenda to carry out its policies. The principal priorities of the Obama Administration include: a plan to revive the economy, to fix our health care, education, and social security systems, to define a clear path to energy independence, to end the war in Iraq responsibly and finish our mission in Afghanistan, and to work with our allies to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon, among many other domestic and foreign policy objectives.

Stay tuned.  I’m sure the scrubbing will not change his left wing agenda – just the transparency with which it is going to be carried out.

Update: Thanks to the folks over at Pink Pistols, those who did not see the original agenda pages on the Obama Transition web site are now able to see them.  Someone thinking ahead scanned the pages and uploaded them so the world can still see the leftest turn this country is about to take.  You can see the gun control proposals here by scrolling down to page four of the document.

Hat tip to Big Gay Al at Yahoo’s Gun Issues Group for pointing me to this.

This is not gun related but for everyone who loves freedom and believes in our capitalist free enterprise system, you need to know how we got to the point where the government is considering nationalizing a large chunk of our financial system.

That’s right – in Minnesota earlier this week Obama’s campaign rolled out a sportsmen network, with a pledge to protect hunters’ gun rights, expand and restore habitat for hunting and fishing, and enhance programs that teach youth about outdoors activities.

Obama’s campaign is working to repel the NRA push to inform gun owners that Obama is an enemy of the Second Amendment that includes reminding gun owners of the candidate’s inartful statement during the primaries about the tendency of small-town Americans to “cling to guns or religion.”

Included in Obama’s effort are radio ads that Obama is running in several key states, including Virginia, that feature Ray Schoenke, President of the astro-turf gun group American Hunters and Shooters Association (AHSA). As mentioned in a post yesterday, Schoenke tells listeners that “Barack Obama and John McCain will both make sure we can keep our guns.”

Apparently not all gun owners and hunters know Obama’s record when it comes to firearms and ammunition. According to an article on Townhall.com, during the roll out of the Obama sportsmen group, a Minnesota hunter said “Tell me where Senator Obama says `I want stricter controls on who can hunt and when’ or ‘I want to ban shotguns and rifles,'” said Jarve, a member of Obama’s Minnesota sportsmen chapter. “Where has he said that? He hasn’t.”

Well, lets see, Obama voted to:

  • allow reckless lawsuits designed to bankrupt the firearms industry to continue;
  • voted for an Illinois State Senate bill to ban and confiscate “assault weapons,” but the bill was so poorly crafted, it would have also banned most semi-auto and single and double barrel shotguns commonly used by sportsmen;
  • voted to ban almost all rifle ammunition commonly used for hunting and sport shooting;
  • endorsed a 500% increase in the federal excise tax on firearms and ammunition;
  • supported a proposal to ban gun stores within 5 miles of a school or park, which would eliminate almost every gun store in America;

All of the above would affect the ability of hunters to participate in their sport either directly or indirectly. So, while he may not have come right out and said so, Obama has either proposed or voted for measures that would restrict the availability of firearms and/or ammunition for hunting and sport shooting.

Never mind the fact that the Second Amendment has nothing to do with hunting.

This blog is focused more on pro Second Amendment issues and between now and election day much will be written about what an Obama administration and a congress with larger Democratic majorities will mean to the rights of gun  owners.   Having said that, there are other reasons to do all we can to defeat Barack Obama.  What do we really know about this man that speaks in platatudes and mosiacs about what he wants to do if he is elected.

Enter the American Issues Project, a conservative 527 organization with a new ad that will hopefully get Americans thinking about where Obama really wants to lead this nation.  Take a look.
