NRA Board Meeting at Annual Meeting
Posted in gun rights, tagged NRA, NRA Board Meeting, NRA infighting, Wayne LaPierre on April 30, 2019| Leave a Comment »
Individuals wanting to see some change at the top of the NRA after months of media reports related to the organization’s finances and the relationship with their main PR firm were probably hopeful that these would be addressed by the Board during their meeting after the close of the just completed 148th Annual Meeting and Exhibits in Indianapolis . We likely won’t find out what happened in the Board Meeting beyond what we already know, that Wayne LaPierre was unanimously reelected to his position as CEO and there is a new NRA President, longtime board member Carolyn Meadows. Charles Cotton replaced Richard Childress as 1st Vice President and Virginian and Virginia Shooting Sports Association member Willes Lee was elected 2nd Vice President. Almost the entire nine and a half hour meeting was held in closed session. The public and NRA Members are not likely to know what transpired during that time because notes are not taken in meetings held in closed session. I sit on two boards, the VSSA Board and my daughter’s school board and I previously held a position on a board of a Virginia public university. All that is placed in the minutes related to things discussed in executive session are things like “the board went into closed session to discuss a personnel issue(s)” or similar matter. For a complete run down on what transpired yesterday, I recommend Stephen Gutowski‘s Free Beacon article.
NRA: Donald Trump’s Strongest Ally

Wayne LaPierre has just released a new video message on NRATV titled, “NRA: Donald Trump’s Strongest Ally.” In it, the NRA Executive Vice President and CEO discusses how gun owners and patriots defied the media and their elitists friends to send Donald J. Trump to the White House. “This election was a grassroots rejection of the elite class that wants to rule America. And the only organization that has fought that fight without apology is the National Rifle Association of America,” LaPierre says. He also notes that “But the time for celebration is over. Our moment to make history begins now … Already, the forces that conspired to keep Donald Trump out of the White House are coming together to sabotage his administration.”
LaPierre then calls upon “the tens of millions of patriots all over this country who stood by our side in defense of Donald Trump—to stand by our side once more.” LaPierre states that “Our time is now,” and asks freedom loving Americans to stand with the NRA to help Donald J. Trump “put a pro-2nd Amendment majority on the Supreme Court,” among other things. “Together, we will truly make America great again,” LaPierre says. Supporters are asked to share the video using #OurTimeisNow.
NRA’s Wayne LaPierre Speaks at Liberty University

Yesterday, Wayne LaPierre spoke at Liberty University’s Convocation. He noted that while most institutes of higher education across the country embrace the lie of “gun-free zones,” Liberty University is notable for actively encouraging its students to practice their constitutionally protected—and God-given—right to armed self-defense. LaPierre also applauded the University’s support of the Second Amendment, saying that the university is “one of the safest places in the country!” He spoke of the intelligence of American gun owners and of the challenges to freedom posed by the current president and by Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton.
Why Your Vote Matters

Do you think your vote matters? If gun owners lose interest or don’t vote, someone else will fill the void and you lose control of what happens to your rights.
Bloomberg Drops $12 Million on Ads Targeting Senators on Gun Control

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s gun ban group Mayors Against Illegal Guns is launching a campaign in states with senators considered to be persuadable on a package of gun control legislation making its way to the Senate floor in April. Bloomberg confirmed on today’s Meet the Press that he plans to spend $12 million to run ads in at least 10 states. He is trying to make them believe there will be a political price to pay for opposing gun control. The ads are more of the recent attempts to drive a wedge between segments of gun owners and the NRA with the ads featuring what are supposed to be hunters who support gun control. This from Fox News:
In one ad, the man says he’ll defend the Second Amendment but adds “with rights come responsibilities.” The ad then urges viewers to tell Congress to support background checks.
In the other ad, the man, a hunter, is shown with the rifle and children playing in the background.
“I believe in the Second Amendment, and I’ll fight to protect it. But with rights come responsibilities,” he says. “That’s why I support comprehensive background checks.”
NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre, who also appeared on the program was not impressed:
“He can’t spend enough of his $27 billion to try to impose his will on the American public,” LaPierre said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “He can’t buy America.”
NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam went further:
“What Michael Bloomberg is trying to do is … intimidate senators into not listening to constituents and instead pledge their allegiance to him and his money,” said spokesman Andrew Arulanandam.
Bloomberg defended the ad buy Sunday , speaking on the same program as LaPierre, saying it would be a “great tragedy” if the momentum for gun control generated after the Newtown mass shooting withered. At the same time, Bloomberg said “I think we are going to win this.”
We was blunt about the purpose of the ad buys. “We’re trying to do everything we can to press upon the senators this is what the survivors want.”
We need to keep the pressure up on our U.S. Senators. Both Mark Warner and Tim Kaine cast their first anti-rights votes this past Friday when they voted against an amendment that would prevent the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty in order to uphold the Second Amendment.
DHS Report Targets Conservatives

Yes, you read that right. On tax day, a day where thousands of Americans attended “Tea Parties” around the counrty to protest the out of control spending by Congress and the President, the media reported that a Department of Homeland Security report titled Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment, included a footnote targeting Americans that tend to support certain conservative causes, as being likely to join “extremist” groups. The footnote went on to say while there is no specific information that domestic “right-wing terrorists” are planning acts of violence, such acts could come from unnamed “rightwing extremists” concerned about illegal immigration, abortion, increasing federal power and restrictions on firearms. The footnote also singled out returning war veterans as susceptible to recruitment of “rightwing extremists.”
NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre appeared on Glenn Beck’s Fox News program the afternoon that the report was issued to discuss it.
